Somebody had a little birthday a month ago.
Here’s a little something I wrote for her on her birthday.
A year ago today, I met you for the first time. Zadie May Jones, I can’t imagine life without you. You are so sweet, so determined, so cute, so funny, silly, smart, adventurous, beautiful, innocent. I love you Zadie.
The future holds so much for us and there are so many things I want to show you and experience with you or let you experience on your own. I can’t wait for the day you get to see the moon on a clear night, when it’s as big as a platter, and hanging low in the sky or when you get to run around outside and catch lightning bugs with your daddy. I want to take you on road trips to unknown places and explore new towns, new countries - let you breathe in the scents, taste the cuisines, see all the people. I want to teach you how to live simply, honestly, yet passionately. I want you to appreciate the feeling of soft grass on the bottoms of your feet, sand squishing between your toes, snowflakes landing on your tongue. And I want to pick strawberries with you in the summer, decorate pumpkins with you in the fall, read poetry to you, and teach you how to knit. I want you to be strong (you already are). I want you to never ever feel like there’s anything you can’t do. My dove, I will do my best, to teach you how to be honest, humble, and smart. And I will love you. Oh Zadie, if you could only know how much I love you. You complete me and your daddy and we are more in love with each other because of you. You are what makes us a family. You are my sunshine, you really are.
Awesome things you are doing
Standing up all over the place. Not quite walking on your own, but you’ll take a step or two when you want to. And you love to walk with your little push cart. You started to really walk about 3 weeks after your birthday.
You’ve been taking things out of drawers for a while, but lately, you decided you want to put things away. You put daddy’s shirts back in his drawers and put things in the laundry bin. I’m hoping this continues through high school.
You love to dance, you bop your head, waves your arms, and shake your tushy. And yes, it’s so cute I could die.
You like to give things to me, your friends, and pretty much anyone. It’s so sweet. I love that you like to share already.
But sometimes, when you want something, there’s no stopping you. You’ll steal a cracker from your friend without batting an eyelash.
You like the pool and the beach and you have a little tan already this summer despite the loads of sunscreen I slather on you.
